Blog Post 5 – Introduction to LIS – Academic Libraries

Review the description of the LibQual survey. LibQual survey results can provide statistical evidence to:

-support proposed initiatives or purchases

-measure the success of recently implemented strategies

-identify areas of strength (to continue) and weakness (to address) for planning purposes.

Visit the Guelph Library website and the Humber College report (pages 6-17) and read their responses to the results of their surveys.

How can Guelph use the evidence from research to address the issue of library as place? What issues should be priorities for management to address at Humber College?

Guelph Library can use the evidence gathered in research to address the issue of library as a place by taking the comments and suggestions from students and faculty and using them in a way to revitalize the space in the library. I think that Guelph Library must put in more outlets and have larger seating areas for students to do work if they want to improve their library. Guelph Library must also improve their hours, whether it is increasing them or making a full 24 hour online access. The three main issues at Humber College Libraries which need to be dealt with by management are an increase in space, access to more technology, and availability of a quite room. By addressing the issue of space, management will be able to develop a quite area as well as provide room for new technology.
